I think we are starting to see the importance of owning your content and not relying on only one way to put or consume that content. Of course, I am talking about the recent development at Twitter where they restricted certain 3rd party developers from using their API. Check this article from The Information for more details on the API issue. The issue here is how suddenly and without notice the API keys were restricted and as of today still no communication as to why. With the current state of Twitter can you say that you own your content, yes you can still get all your tweets but if anything I think it has proven that the unpredictability of Twitter the past few months I would not count that as owning my content.
